On the 10th of November, we had the privilege of attending a guided workshop at ABB Robotics - a global leader in robotics and machine automation. For many of us, this was an enriching and enlightening glimpse into the realm of STEM.

Following our arrival at ABB’s headquarters, we were briefed on safety protocols, and an introduction to the company’s mission. Soon after, the main event unfolded as we met the exciting and cutting-edge technologies that ABB has to offer. Among the highlights of our visit was GoFa, a VR-controlled welding machine that enables direct cooperation with workers; and the IRB 360 FlexPicker, a spider-like robot with suction cups that served as a comprehensive and automatic packaging solution; and YuMi, a dual-arm robot capable of brewing coffee and even performing dances! What was most astonishing, however, was discovering how small ABB’s team was. This served as a striking reminder to us students that success in innovation is not always the product of scale, but rather the outcome of discipline, perseverance, and continuous improvement.
Overall, the workshop was an opportunity to learn, to nurture a lifelong passion for curiosity, and most importantly, to be motivated as students to surpass such excellence within our own pursuits in STEM.
